Recognition of a foreign diploma in Georgia

Georgian universities, employers and state bodies may ask for official recognition of education received abroad. Recognition is handled by the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement (NCEQE). This guide lists the documents, translations, fees and timelines.

Checked against official sources on September 17, 2026

What can be recognised

The NCEQE recognises general, vocational and higher education received abroad. Preschool education and medical residency are not covered.

Who can apply and how

You can apply yourself, through a representative with a power of attorney, or as a parent for your child's education. Applications are submitted at the NCEQE office in Tbilisi, or online at my.gov.ge if you have a Georgian ID card with an electronic signature.

Documents you need

Every document in a foreign language must be submitted with a notarized translation into Georgian. The main documents are:

  • The application form
  • A copy of your ID; foreign citizens submit a notarized Georgian translation of their passport
  • A notarized translation of the educational document; for higher education it must show the form of study
  • A power of attorney, if a representative applies
  • A notarized copy of the child's birth certificate, if a parent applies
  • The receipt for the fee

Fees and timelines

Processing starts on the second business day after you apply. The fee depends on the timeline:

  • Standard, one month: 40 ₾
  • 15 business days: 80 ₾
  • 5 business days: 120 ₾
  • 1 business day: 250 ₾

Preparing the translations

Translate the passport and the educational documents together, so that your name and the name of your school or university are spelled the same way everywhere. If you also submit a transcript or diploma supplement, course and degree names should match the diploma.

A one-page diploma with notary certification costs 24.58 ₾, and a passport 22.58 ₾. Longer documents are priced per page.
