Who can marry and where
Marriage is allowed in Georgia from the age of 18. Both partners must have legal capacity and must not be married to anyone else.
A marriage can be registered at a Public Service Hall branch, a territorial office of the Public Service Development Agency or a Wedding House. Both partners must attend: registration through a representative is not allowed.
Documents to prepare
Foreign citizens submit:
- A joint written application from both partners
- Identity documents of both partners and of the witnesses
- A document proving that you are staying in Georgia legally
- If either partner was married before, a document proving that the earlier marriage has ended
Which documents need a translation
The agency may accept a foreign passport without a Georgian translation if the personal data in it is also written in Latin letters.
Other foreign documents, such as a divorce certificate or a court decision, must be legalized or apostilled and submitted with a notarized Georgian translation. The apostille or legalization is done in the country that issued the document, so arrange it before you travel.
Witnesses and fees
Two adult witnesses with legal capacity must attend the registration.
Registration without a special ceremony is free at Public Service Hall branches and the agency's territorial offices. Ceremony services are paid; the agency publishes the current prices on its website.
